Creative Reach's flagship production: a live theatrical and civic gathering that commemorates Juneteenth through story, music, movement, and intergenerational dialogue.
Written by Twana Benoit and directed by her son, Josiah Price, The Juneteenth Story began decades ago as a family telling of how freedom came to be. It has grown into an annual ritual in Lafayette, gathering hundreds each year at the Acadiana Center for the Arts to remember, celebrate, and sit together in the meaning of the day.
Told across two timelines, it connects emancipation-era experience to the ongoing work of freedom now. It is theatre that does what a holiday should: it brings a community into one room.
